Calinan National High School is a government institution offering General High School. It is conveniently located at the heart of Calinan Poblacion which is 28 kilometers distance from Davao City and 50 kilometers distance from the boundary of Bukidnon Province.

This school was established in 1967 through the initiative and effort of the then CIty Mayor Elias B. Lopez.  It was ordained by the City Council under City Ordinance No. 23, which authorized the opening of Barrio Extension High School.

Few years later, the school was renamed respectively as Calinan Community High School, Calinan Barangay High School, City High School of Calinan, and at present Calinan National High School.

Calinan National High School began its operation with a curriculum offering of First year and Second year levels only within the premises of Calinan Central Elementary School which owned a parcel of land denominated by Lot 521 having a total area of six hectares.

In 1988, the population growth of both high school students and elementary pupils became a factor in the learning environment.  The crowded population is no longer conducive to learning so that the then Calinan Central Elementary School Principal, Basilia Alconcel, assisted by the then Calinan District Supervisor, Autimo Alconcel  gave/granted  1,600 square meters of land near Talomo-Lipadas River, a portion of Lot 521-A to Calinan National High School, following the appointment of Head Teacher Evelyn Mangaron as Principal I.

At present, although Calinan National High School has already 12 buildings with 34 classrooms and one computer room, still, is not enough to cater the 3,181 students for the school year 2009-2010. Because of this, the school administrator decided to hold classes in two sessions, morning and afternoon sessions. Also, because of increasing student population, the school administrator found it necessary to create 2 school annexes:  Wangan High School and Tamayong High School.

Through the unifying efforts of efficient and competent teachers and the administration, the school produces quality students/graduates who excelled in their academic, co-curricular and extra -curricular activities.

For the school year 2009-2010, the school registered a total of 3,181 students with a total of 106 Plantilla Teachers, one (I) Principal III, a Disbursing Officer II and a Senior Bookkeeper.
